While memecoins left their mark on 2024, the memecoin named CHILLGUY came to the fore in a different way.
Accordingly, Phillip Banks, the creator of the memecoin called “Chill Guy”n, said that he has copyrighted the memecoin character and plans to issue a takedown notice for any for-profit use.
It all started with a tweet, when Phillip Banks shared a drawing of a humanoid dog character wearing a grey sweater, blue jeans and red shoes, with the now iconic caption: “My new character. He’s just a chill guy who doesn’t give a fuck.”
But while no one could have predicted that this character would become so popular, a Pump.fun user named Mrowl minted the CHILLGUY memecoin, turning internet humor into a potential financial opportunity.
While Memecoin reached a staggering market value of $47.3 million, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, a Bitcoin (BTC) supporter, shared an image featuring the meme concept called CHILLGUY on his X account.
Bukele’s post sparked a short-term surge in CHILLGUY, at one point reaching over $500 million in market value. However, CHILLGUY has been unable to hold on to all of its gains and is trading at $0.35, up 22%.
