Following reports that Donald Trump’s team is considering creating a dedicated White House role for cryptocurrency policy, Cardano (ADA) founder and a leading voice in the blockchain space, Charles Hoskinson, has entered the discussion.
Hoskinson expressed support for the idea of a “Head of Crypto” and nominated Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong for the position, citing Armstrong’s leadership and resilience in navigating the U.S. regulatory environment.
In his public statement, Hoskinson said impartiality and expertise were important to the potential role. In his statement, he said:
“Regarding the idea of a Crypto President in the White House, I think that role needs to be filled by someone who is impartial, who works with all the protocols, and who deeply understands why crypto is special and what the US government under Biden is doing wrong.”
Hoskinson cited Armstrong’s experience at Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange that has faced regulatory challenges under the Biden administration, as evidence of his suitability for the role:
“There is only one candidate in our industry that I think stands out for this role, and that is Brian Armstrong. Coinbase has become a pillar of crypto and has had to endure unfair tactics from a government committed to regulation through enforcement.”
Hoskinson noted the need for a unified cryptocurrency industry to collaborate with the U.S. government and push for comprehensive regulatory reform. He outlined plans to directly engage with lawmakers:
“I’m flying to Washington today to begin formally meeting with and advising several lawmakers, and in January I’ll launch a project from IO Policy called Operation Baseline to investigate the U.S. cryptocurrency industry to identify waste, abuse, and missed opportunities.”
Hoskinson described the potential creation of a White House crypto role as a pivotal moment for the industry:
“The president’s goal is to make America the best place in the world to start and run a cryptocurrency and blockchain business. We must come together as an industry to make this happen.”
